O, HOLY NIGHT(HOME FREE)

NOW, HERE ARE SOME PICTURES AND SCENES TO REMIND US OF THE BIRTH AND LIFE OF JESUS.

This rugged, yet lovely, manger scene was given to the Methodist Church and community of Tunica by Dick and Charlyne Watson. It is displayed each year on the lawn of the church during December. Children can, and do, play in the midst of the scene, enjoying the figures...even riding the animals at times. The figures were made by a company in Italy (if my memory serves me well) and the boards came from an old farm building on the Watson's place. A few weeks back, while preparing a eulogy for 'Miss Charlyne', this came to my mind: 'Wonder how many children, playing in the manger scene, have gotten their first awareness that they have a Heavenly Father who wants them to get close to Him...that they can always come to Jesus just as they are? Wonder how many adults, driving by the manger, have had the thought enter their minds...Could it be true that God loves me....can I really approach Him?'

To the right is an ancient portrayal of the birth of Jesus, which includes the three wise men (traditionally held view).'For unto us a child is born; unto us a son is given, and the government will be upon his shoulders. He will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.'Isaiah 9:6 On the left we are shown a painting (1641) of Joseph and Mary presenting Jesus at the Temple when he was 8 days old.'On the eighth day, when it was time to circumsise him, he was named Jesus, the name the angel had given him before he had been conceived. Joseph and Mary took him to Jerusalem to present him to the Lord.St. Luke 2:21,22
To the right is a reprentation of Jesus at the age of 12 when he stayed in Jerusalem after his mother and daddy had started back home to Nazareth. After they had been on the road a day, Joseph and Mary realized Jesus was missing. They went back and found him in the Temple discussing scripture with the teachers. (Jesus must have been pretty smart.)St. Luke 2:41-47 On the left you see Jesus being baptized at the age of 30 by his cousin John. Then Jesus came from Galilee to the Jordan to be baptized by John. As soon as Jesus was baptized, he went up out of the water. At that moment heaven opened and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, lighting upon him. And a voice from heaven said, 'this is my Son in whom I am well pleased'.St. Matt. 3:13,16,17
Jesus described himself as the 'Good Shepherd'. To the left is a picture based on the parable of 'the Lost Sheep'. Even though he has 99 sheep safe for the night, the shepherd goes searching for the one that is lost, and brings it home in his arms.John 10 and Luke 15 To the right is a representation of the scripture from the Book of Revelation where Jesus says,'Behold I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door I will come in and eat with him and he with me..Revelation 3:20
Jesus once said that His disciples were to 'take up their own cross and follow Him'. We believe He carried His own cross to Calvary (with help from Simon of Cyrene) and died on it as the payment for our sins. Because of the 'gift' of His life for us, we can celebrate His birth by giving our best selves to Him each day. While celebrating Christmas let's be sure to keep in mind that Jesus is alive and 'sits at the right hand of The Father, waiting for the day when He will return and take us to His Big House....(there is room for everyone there).
May your Christmas season be filled with JOY and PEACE!
