HOME BIRTHDAY PAGE NITE B 4 EASTER LIFE LESSONS RIDDLE ME

T’was the night before Easter
And all through the tombs,
Only one was stirring, ready to leave His room.

The big stone was fixed all snug and tight,
evil men hoping in vain
it would hold through the night.

Two days earlier few had watched him die.
Soon their world would know the reason ‘why’!
The prophets of old had told this story,
always believing it would be to God’s Glory!

The sins of all would be His burden to bear,
and that He did, while on a cross, hung in the air.
It was His Father’s plan; He to arise and to atone,
yet foolish men tried to hold Him with a stone.

Now, it was morning of that first Easter,
and the dead of the tombs still slept in their ‘beds’.
However, this One, now alive, had gone on ahead.

When questioned, terrified guards concocted a lie,
Saying, “His friends came and stole him away.”
Afraid of the truth, what more could they say?

Special friends came early, concerned about that stone,
all the while, assuming they would be alone.
But to their amazement, the tomb was open.. as empty as could be.
An angel greeted, “Do not look here, for Him you will not see!”

With joy they went to tell the good news,
“That for their friend, Jesus, death had to retreat!”
Their talking hushed…they were confused,
a familiar voice whispered, “Mary”,…
she fell at his feet.

His message: “Go and tell my friends,
there is no loss!
My Father's plan has always been
that my life would not end upon that cross!"

Mary and the others on swift feet flew
to let the disciples know:
"from henceforth all things would be new."

Later, as the disciples waited, sharing the pall,
into their midst Jesus came.
With words of encouragement He assured them all,
that his death was not their blame.

Still later, as they watched from a hillside nearby,
He said, "Wait in Jerusalem for power from on High!"
Then, with those amazing words,
He lifted His arms and rose into the sky!

Now, my friends, we live on this side of the empty tomb,
and have millions of witnesses to the Truth!
So, how will we live in the gathering gloom
of a world that refuses so much proof?

We will lift His name on high and live by
the rhythm of the cross...
"not my will; not my way.
Thy will, Father, each and every day."

(I recorded these words in late December 2017 as I recalled hearing “The Night Before Christmas” being read to my class by our teacher at Horn Lake Elementary School. It is my belief that these words came to me from God through the Holy Spirit. Doug Hardin)
